What does it take to stare down your biggest fear, lace up your shoes, and run toward a goal that once led to your greatest setback? For RUN Loughborough athlete Rob Jackson, it took grit, the unwavering support of his club, and a relentless dedication to his training.

This past weekend, Rob completed the Leicester Half Marathon in a phenomenal time of 94:25, achieving his ambitious target of sub-95 minutes and setting a new Personal Record (PR). But this victory is more than just a time on a clock; it's a profound story of recovery and resilience.

The London Marathon Setback

Just a few months ago, Rob faced a traumatic event that would have made many hang up their running shoes forever. While competing in the London Marathon, he collapsed at mile 25, losing consciousness due to severe heat exhaustion and dehydration. He was rushed to the hospital, an incredibly scary and traumatic time for both him and his family.

The physical recovery was one battle, but the mental one, the task of building back his confidence and trusting his body again, was arguably tougher. Every long run became a mental test, a confrontation with that terrifying finish line moment.

The Power of the RUN Loughborough Family

In the shadow of the London Marathon, Rob found his strength within the RUN Loughborough community. The support he received from the club and its members was instrumental in his comeback.

"The encouragement and understanding from everyone at RUN Loughborough has been immense," Rob shared. "They gave me the space to recover but the motivation to believe I could do this again. I wouldn't have made it to the start line without them."

The club provided more than just training partners; they offered a lifeline of collective experience, empathy, and positive reinforcement, helping Rob to re-frame his journey and focus on the future.

A Perfect Training Block and Race Day Execution

Rob’s dedication in the build-up to the Leicester Half Marathon was nothing short of inspirational. He committed fully to his training plan, marking an impressive run of zero missed sessions and consistently hitting every target throughout the entire training block. It was the perfect preparation for a major event.

This meticulous preparation translated into a flawless race day execution. Crucially, Rob was supported by his incredible pacers, Craig and James. Their focused teamwork and motivation were key, guiding him through the miles and helping to keep the goal time within reach.

Despite an unexpected challenge—a navigational error that sent them the wrong way, forcing them to run an extra quarter of a mile, Rob pushed through, crossing the finish line in a spectacular 94:25! Not only did he smash his sub-95 goal, but he did so while overcoming an in-race setback, proving just how ready he was.

Rob Jackson's performance at the Leicester Half Marathon is a powerful reminder that running is as much a mental sport as a physical one. His journey from a hospital bed to a triumphant PR is a testament to the human spirit and the extraordinary power of a supportive running community.

Congratulations, Rob! Your comeback is truly the stuff of legends.
