This Movember, we're giving a massive cheer to one of our dedicated Run Loughborough athletes, Liam Grest, who is turning his passion for running into powerful action for men's health!

Liam is growing a Mo and fundraising for Movember, the leading charity dedicated to changing the face of men's health across prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention.

A School's Dedication: Over £20,000 Raised

Liam's commitment is supported by his workplace, Bosworth Academy in Leicestershire, which has a remarkable history with the cause:

"At Bosworth Academy we have supported the Movember charity since 2019 and in that time have raised over £20,000."

This impressive fundraising total shows a deep-rooted dedication to the charity's crucial work in raising awareness of men’s mental health, suicide awareness, testicular cancer, and prostate cancer.

60 Kilometres for 60 Men

Liam is amplifying his personal fundraising efforts this month with an incredible physical challenge that highlights the urgency of the Movember cause:

"As part of the month’s fundraising this week I pledged to run 6km with each of our ten PE groups; a massive 60km in the week in recognition of the 60 males who die by suicide globally every hour."

This powerful pledge turns every step into a meaningful tribute and conversation starter, aiming to break down the taboo of men talking about their issues and illnesses.

Liam's Impressive Running Year

Liam’s dedication to fitness is clear from his 2025 stats:

  • He has spent a whopping 64 hours running this year.

  • He's covered just under 430 miles over 92 separate activities.

  • He boasts a fantastic marathon time of 3:27:41 and he ran a blazing 1:36:14 Half Marathon PR at the 2019 year's iconic Great North Run.

If Liam maintains an average of around 20 miles per week for the remainder of the year (with that 60km challenge certainly helping!), he is well on track to smash his total mileage from 2024!

Get Inspired: Movement for Mental Health!

Liam is a shining example of how movement can directly benefit your mental and physical health. Whether you join a group or take a solitary walk, physical activity is a vital tool for stress relief and well-being.

Let this be your inspiration to move! Your first mile is the most important one.
